Notes on your Character's History
Here are a few important things to keep in mind about writing your character
history. Failure to note these guidelines will result in changes being made,
or rejection of the application.
- It is almost always easier to create a new, Ansteorra-specific alt than
try to take an existing character and change their history. It is not impossible
to do; however, it may require you to retcon a large portion of your character's
life.
- Your character need not be someone special to fit in here. Unless there
is an amazing reason why your character should be unique, such traits are
looked on with a critical eye. Specifically, we're wary of any applications
that say that your character is:
- ..the last of a dying/dead race.
- ..from a fallen noble house, -especially- if that house is not in
continuity.
- ..someone who has super-special powers of any source.
- ..a Vampire. Vampires in Ansteorra are treated with special rules,
and you are unlikely to be able to be one.
- ..ruler of anything, or a noble of anything. (All heads of state in
the continuity are NPCs)
- ..from a race not on the races
page.
- Remember that your character comes in to the continuity somewhere between
level 1 and level 4. This implies that your character appears unskilled and
with fairly little training. Mages are apprentices or hedge wizards, fighters
are squires or militiamen, clerics are acolytes or seminarians, etc. Only
in -extremely rare- circumstances will a character be
accepted who is not level 1-4. In the entire history of the guild, this has
only happened 3-4 times, don't get your hopes up.
- If you craft your character's history using the background
information, and take care to keep mindful of these guidelines, your application
will most likely be accepted.
