Founded at the beginning of the Second Age of Calenndor, the Glorious Empire (today simply known as the 'Empire of Aractha') existed for over 17,500 uninterrupted years. At its height, near the end of the Second Age, the Empire spanned across Feanor, ruling nearly every square mile of the world. By the time it was destroyed in the mid Third Age, the once-glorious Empire had lost nearly everything it had gained and ruled only the western coast of Calenndor, most of the Freelands and colonies on Hæ'eska and Pirostia.

The Founding

Aractha was founded by a sect of Furre mages known as the Aramágî (A-ra-má-gî). Cast out from their homes in ancient Taigorr, the Aramágî travelled northward, settling amongst the Elves of Westernesse in the early First Age. There the mages honed their craft along with the Elves, and developed a magical society west of the Ash Mountains. The founding of Unath in the antepenultimate millennium of the First Age was the zenith of the magical arts of the age.

At the end of the First Age, with the fall of the Empire of Taigorr, the refugees that escaped the Dhamzon travelled northwards. Some settled amongst the tribes in the oasises of the Desert of Tigath, but many of them continued toward the Freelands and the Elvenlands, where they met the Aramagi civilization. This mass influx of refugees was the catalyst for the creation of the Glorious Empire. The refugees formed the underclass of laborers and workfurres that the Aramagi themselves lacked in great quantity. Exploitation of this percieved boon proceeded quickly.

In their rather fascist assimilation of the refugees from Taigorr, the Aramagi worked tirelessly to strip them of their language, and gave the refugees a more suitable one: Archanic, which was derived from the versative tense of Elder Arcane. Many of the refugees were unlettered, and the chance for even basic schooling was a boon to them, both economically and socially. Those refugees who were literate, or who brought with them books and library materials from Taigorr were immediately afforded a high station, and their knowledge was parsed, and their books translated into Noble Aracthan, the lingua franca of the Aramagi and the Taigorrean "Refugee Nobility".

Subduing the underclass was a simple affair for the mighty mages of the Aramagi. Revolts during this time were rare, and quickly crushed. In only two centuries, the Nation of Unath had already surpassed many of the other neighboring lands, and had even begone to influence things at the Elven Court at Westernesse. By the crowning of the first God Emperor on the first day of the first year of the Second Age, the Glorious Empire was already showing a strength not seen on Calenndor since the great rulers of Taigorr.

The First Few Millennia

The rule of the first God Emperor lasted for over a thousand years, and it was in this time that the Glorious Empire expanded to envelop the area now known as the Hinterlands. Strong ties with Sargothas and Westernesse were forged, and Aramagi could be seen in most of the major lands of Calenndor. Imperial ships sailed the ports as far away as the Basijid Empire of Pirostia, and began the first known large scale survey of Feanor. The Aramagi were thorough, and completed their task within three centuries, accurate up to six inches.
